This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to plan for and move block and bulk flat glass by mechanical means in workplaces which are involved in the manufacture, processing and/or installation of sheet glass.
This unit applies to glass processing workers.
No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

Assessment Tasks

Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

Read work instructions and identify type and quantity of glass to be relocated
Identify and follow work health and safety requirements, using all required personal protective equipment
Identify blocks of glass sheet to be moved and estimate or calculate weight using appropriate method

Correctly identify mechanical handling equipment based on the size, weight and type of glass

Follow planned process and route and relocate glass without injury or damage to material and equipment
Label glass in accordance with workplace procedures, ensuring there are no projections
Check relocation against work requirements, and report any differences to relevant personnel
